Improving quality through application vision systems

The vision of a vision system is, as the word says, looking and signing for a particular purpose. There are essentially two types of vision systems that can be distinguished. Vision systems for controlling quality and robotic control systems. The use of vision systems has risen sharply in recent years. Especially in the pharmaceutical and automotive industry, where the quality aspect plays an increasingly important role. Zero tollerance (zero% drop) is and is increasingly becoming a requirement.

Vision control system

During the manufacturing or assembly process vision systems are used for various purposes. Fewer dropouts, better process control, fault detection or staff deployment can be reasons for deploying vision control systems. By means of a camera, the vision system detects whether a product complies. This happens with extreme precision. Errors that are not visible to the human eye (too small tolerances and / or too fast displacements) can be detected by means of a vision system. For the production process and for the quality of the finished product, this can be a great improvement.

Vision systems in combination with robotic systems

Vision systems are also used to drive robots. The vision system detects, for example, how a product is on the conveyor belt or which product is on the tire, this information is forwarded to the robot and the robot knows how to handle the product or that the product needs to be picked up. Very important is that the vision system and the robot communicate very well with each other. This requires both knowledge of vision systems and robotics. The Z-Tech engineers control both disciplines. They can program the robot in the right way and ensure good integration with the vision system.

Illumination crucial to vision systems

The success of a vision system falls or stands with the correct illumination of the particular object. Unlike the human eye in conjunction with a relatively gross motor (eye-hand coordination), the accuracy of a vision system in combination with a robot or servo system and the much faster processing speed quickly increases a factor of 1000. That the lighting is then very crucial for itself. Consider the right angle (s), colour spectrum (possibly even infrared), intensity and effects of ambient light such as building lighting and daylight. We have the advantage of having a good support from our vision partners and our own acquired knowledge and experience regarding this complex matter. We also have a variety of systems and tests to perform internally diverse tests.
